Travel from Siem Reap through the beautiful Cambodian countryside to Sambor Prei Kuk, the ancient capital of Chenla known as Ishanapura and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kampong Kdei Bridge
Our first stop is the historic Kampong Kdei Bridge, also known as Spean Prahtos. This impressive ancient Khmer bridge dates from the Angkorian period and provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the engineering and infrastructure of the Khmer Empire.

Continue to Sambor Prei Kuk, one of Cambodia’s most important pre-Angkorian archaeological sites. The ancient city of Ishanapura flourished during the Chenla period, centuries before the construction of Angkor Wat. Its distinctive brick architecture and forest setting offer a very different experience from the major Angkor temples. Explore Prasat Sambor, one of the three principal temple groups. Walk among ancient brick sanctuaries and admire the remaining carvings and architectural details that demonstrate the sophisticated craftsmanship of the early Khmer period. Continue to Prasat Tao, one of the most famous temples at Sambor Prei Kuk. The temple is particularly known for its impressive lion sculptures guarding the sanctuary and its atmospheric forest surroundings.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the temple area. Your guide can recommend local Cambodian dishes and provide time to relax before continuing the temple exploration.

In the afternoon, visit Prasat Yeay Poan, one of the three major temple complexes. This area is especially atmospheric, with ancient brick structures, laterite enclosures and trees growing around the ruins. Explore the temples while learning about their history, religious significance and unique pre-Angkorian architecture.

Return to Siem Reap. After completing the exploration of Sambor Prei Kuk, begin the drive back to Siem Reap. Enjoy the countryside views along the way before arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening.
